Our Mission
As a service for the public good, and with the help of our generous Community, Baynes Creek Development exists to build an affordable and diverse community of workforce housing for Greene County’s essential workers.
Who we serve:
We serve hardworking families in Greene County who are struggling to find housing. Our focus is on households where at least one family member is employed locally in Greene County, but the combined income does not exceed the Area Median Income (AMI). These are the people who keep our community moving forward: teachers educating our children, EMS and first responders protecting our safety, food service staff preparing our meals, and countless others in essential service roles. By supporting these families, we help strengthen the very backbone of Greene County.
Worker Residency in Greene County
Most essential workers in Greene County don’t live where they work. Only 4% of firefighters and 8% of police officers live locally. Only 25% of nurses and 35% of Reynolds Lake Oconee workers live there. Teachers have the highest local residency at 40%. These numbers show that affordable housing is hard to find, forcing many workers to commute instead of living in the community they serve.
That’s why we’ve created Baynes Creek to help the people who work here live here. By offering affordable housing options, Baynes Creek gives essential workers like teachers, nurses, police officers, and others the chance to plant roots, reduce long commutes, and truly be part of the community they serve every day.
